Vietnam Veterans with Type 2 Diabetes May Qualify for VA Disability Compensation. Vietnam veterans diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes may now be eligible for disability compensation through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) due to exposure to Agent Orange and other herbicides during their military service. This follows a decision announced on November 9, 2000, by then Acting Secretary Hershel W. Gober, officially adding Type 2 Diabetes to the VA’s list of presumptive conditions linked to herbicide exposure. Additionally, information regarding disability compensation for Hepatitis C is also available on the VA website.
