Sheriff Thomas C. ("TC") Smalls
T.C. Smalls was elected in 2006 to serve as Sheriff of Hampton County. Sheriff Smalls is a native of Hampton County and has a deep commitment to serving its citizens. He has been married for twenty-six years and has four children and two grandchildren. Sheriff Smalls has served as a Minister in the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc. but now serves as Interim Pastor of Greater Refuge Church in Varnville, South Carolina.
Sheriff Smalls attended public schools in Hampton County and is a 1972 graduate of Wade Hampton High School. His career in Law Enforcement began in 1983 when he joined the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department. In 1984, Sheriff Smalls graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. From 1988 to 1994, he served as Chief Deputy. In 1991, he was awarded “Officer of the Year”. From 1995 to 1998, he served as Lieutenant of Operations. In 1998, Sheriff Smalls was presented with a Certificate for Dedicated Law Enforcement in Hampton County by Representative Bill Bowers and the Hampton County Council. Throughout his Law Enforcement career, Sheriff Smalls has been the recipient of numerous letters of accommodation from the FBI, SLED, and other Law Enforcement Agencies in supportive assistance to various areas of enforcement. During 2000 and 2001, Sheriff Smalls served as Chief of Investigations. He served as School Resource Officer for the Varnville Police Department from 2002 to 2006. Then in 2006, Sheriff T.C. Smalls was elected to serve his first term as Sheriff of Hampton County. Sheriff Smalls is proud to “protect and serve” the citizens of his home county.
