Department Functions

  • Register all qualified Hampton County citizens to vote.
  • Determine qualifications of all applicants and assign proper voting precinct and voting districts. 
  • Issue new/duplicate voter registration certificates.
  • Certify copies of registration records.
  • Maintain county voter registration records to the State Election Commission.
  • Provide absentee voting services.  The office acts as Absentee Precinct for all federal, state and local elections held in the county.
  • Validate signatures from petitions for candidates, political parties and request for referenda.
  • Publish election notices.
  • Appoint and train clerks and poll managers.
  • Prepare voting system and equipment.
  • Print and distribute ballots.
  • Provide proper number of voting machines for each polling place.
  • Oversight of ballot tabulation.
  • Certify candidates and election results.
  • Hear protests of county and less than county wide elections, excluding primaries and municipal elections.

Hours of Operation

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (except for legal holidays). Closed 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. for lunch. 

7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Board meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month starting at 5:00 P.M. in Council Chambers located at the B.T. Deloach Building - 201 Jackson Avenue West, Hampton, SC
