Peggy Parker, EdD, prominently displays a framed picture in her home that reads, “I wasn’t born in Hampton, but I got here as fast as I could!” The picture sums up her love for Hampton County and the 32 years she has spent as an enthusiastic resident of this special Lowcountry community.
Dr. Parker was first elected to the Hampton County Council in 1994. Now serving her fourth term, she is presently the Council’s Vice-Chairman. Dr. Parker has served as the County’s representative on the Lowcountry Council of Governments Board and as Council Chairman during her third term on County Council.
Prior to her service and leadership on County Council, Dr. Parker worked in a number of teaching and administrative positions within the two school districts in Hampton County. She was also the founder and active board member of PRO Hampton County, a non-profit organization dedicated to community improvement. She is a member of Hampton United Methodist Church, and is currently serving as Chairman of the Stewardship Program.
A dedicated and passionate community organizer, Dr. Parker lends a great deal of her time and resources to initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Hampton County residents, including:
- The Adopt-A-Highway Program Coordinator
- The Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Board Member
- The Donnelly Foundation Advisory Board Member
- County-Wide Church Services to Promote Harmony and Community Relations Coordinator
Dr. Parker received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Library Science from Columbia College in Columbia, S. C. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Elementary Administration and a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of South Carolina.
Peggy Parker resides in the town of Hampton with her husband, Johnny Parker. Their twins, Meg and Jay have flown the nest and left them to care for a cat with special needs named “Scruffy”.
