Mission Statement

The mission of the Hampton County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is to ensure every eligible citizen has the opportunity to register to vote, participate in fair and impartial elections, and have the assurance that their votes will count.


  • Determining qualifications of all voter registration applicants
  • Creating a voter record in the Voter Registration and Election Management System (VREMS) for all new voters
  • Providing written notification of registration to qualified applicants
  • Maintaining county voter registration records
  • Providing absentee voting services.
  • Validating signatures from petitions for candidates, political parties, and requests for referenda
  • Publishing election notices
  • Appointing and training clerks and poll managers
  • Preparing voting system and equipment
  • Printing and distributing ballots
  • Providing proper number of voting machines for each polling location
  • Oversight of ballot tabulation
  • Certifying candidates and election results
  • Hearing protests of county and less than county wide elections, excluding primaries and municipal elections
